Louis Quatorze
2017
28" x 22"
Oil on canvas
$2,000
My first work, Louis XIV (2017), parodies a portion of the great work by Hyacinthe Rigaud which hangs in the Louvre. It resided in my mind for many years and only came to be through many hours of enjoyment, viewing and discussing major oeuvres in museum settings. Here, I portray the finery of the great king, focusing on the decoration, frippery and effeminacy of the royal dress of the day; i.e., furs, gold trim, hosiery, garters, bowed shoes and dainty undergarments.
