Very Still Life

Very Still Life (2018), is my concession to that painting genre. Symbols of aging and an approaching end (burned down candle, dying flower, finished book, run-out timer, clock approaching midnight, chair, cane and Monet’s Dead Toreador), signify my having taken up painting so late in life. No one can predict the date of his death without his own meddling, which I don’t now advocate for myself. Yet we all know that one day our lives will be stilled – very stilled. It’s a dark subject, reflected in my choice of colors.
